fancy-beer

fancy-beerIt is the pretentious thought that beer is for the “working class” or the “non-fancy”. This is simply not true. Beer has been a drink of the elite for centuries. Every country-house during the days of George Washington and more were equipped with their own breweries. How fancy is that? Fine dining can and should be accompanied with both wine and beer equally. Today, various demographic studies state that the more likely you are to drink beer, the more affluent you are.

With all of this said, there is a such thing as cheap beer, which people have every right not to drink as well as cheap wine. During college days, many parties are sponsored by cheap beer, which seems to have added to the negativity towards beer. I understand
this notion, but I would like to just make individuals aware that there is fine beer out there.

photo(8)In addition, it appears to be a common notion that women do not like the taste of beer. This is false. Taste buds, not gender are what decide someone’s distaste towards beer. A study conducted by Yale University states that 25% of us are non-tasters, 50% of us are medium-tasters, and 25% of us are super-tasters. Non-tasters prefer strong flavors i.e spicy food, rich wines etc. Super-tasters tend not to like strong flavors due to their sensitive palate (roof of the mouth). One of the key measures is that bitterness, a common flavor in beer, makes the beer unpleasant to super-tasters. Super-tasters are the ones that do not like beer, but sometimes they can be female as well as males.

I used to think beer was “unclassy” until some kind soul handed me a Bud Light on a hot day. It’s definitely an acquired taste, but I find myself ordering a beer much more often these days. I wouldn’t normally order wine at a bar — if its not a cocktail or a shot, get a beer.
