Water is an inexpensive vital necessity that is typically over looked. I have entailed a few health benefits of water that you may or may not have known.

1) Water keeps the skin looking young. (Ever read Tuck Everlasting?)
According to the UCLA associate clinical professor of medicine, Howard Murad, M.D., keeping your skin hydrated by drinking water can allow you to look significantly younger. He states, “Water naturally plumps skin, fills in fine lines and wrinkles, and boosts a lackluster complexion.” Dr. Murad recommends
drinking 11 8-ounce glasses a day, which is also the guideline set by the Institute of Medicine. In addition to drinking water, Murad recommends using products on the skin that contain hyaluronic acid, which creates a moisture barrier aiding your skin to hold on to water longer.

2) Water helps weight loss.
Drinking 2 8-ounce glasses of water before breakfast, lunch, and dinner allows you to eat 75 to 90 fewer calories per meal .All this according to study conducted by the National Meeting of the American Chemical Society. During the three months of this study, participants lost an average five pounds more than those who didn’t drink extra water during these meals.

3) Water brightens your mood and boosts brainpower.
Dehydration is no longer just associated with thirst, but it can also be associated with feelings of anger, depression, and confusion which even just mild dehydration can cause. Research on this was conducted by Tufts University. In addition, a study from King’s College in London stated that long periods of dehydration impair brain functions i.e. planning and spatial relations.

4) Eliminates breakouts.
“Drink hot lemon water first thing in the morning to reduce bacteria internally, lessening breakouts.” – Rouleau (Skincare specialist)

5) Battles diseases.
“Eating colorful raw fruits and vegetables provides your cells structured water, the best form. Structured water stays in your system long enough to nourish and hydrate cells, and as a bonus, these sources of water are also rich in cell- protecting antioxidants and health-enhancing fiber.” – Dr. Howard Murad, M.D.

Fruits that contain more than 90% water: cucumbers, papayas, watermelon

6) Makes vegetables healthier.
Roasting and grilling vegetables may be tasty, but according to Alan Logan, co-author of Your Skin, Younger: New Science Secrets to Reverse the effects of Age, these ways of cooking vegetables can contribute to inflammation in the body which can lead to aging faster. Logan encourages steaming vegetables.

Drink up!
