THE EXPERIENCE

If you were casually walking down First Street NE in Bloomingdale, you’d probably see the District Yoga across the street. You may, however, pass by a somewhat inconspicuous venue hidden on a strip of row houses. Chicken lovers may want to pay attention.

Providing a cozy space and vibe, Crisp Kitchen + Bar will appeal to some patrons because of their daily happy hour drink specials(seriously, they’re pretty damn good), but may keep customers coming for their fried and deliciously flavored Nashville-style chicken. Crisp provides patrons with a different atmosphere on both floors. If you’re in the mood for a more intimate space, their lower level is where you want to be. If you’re looking for something a little more fun and open, their upstairs level provides that. But whatever type of atmosphere you’re looking for, Crisp’s bartenders most often help add to the friendly and casual atmosphere.

Back to the chicken- Crisp offers a variety of options from chicken fingers to chicken sandwiches. Although the chicken sandwich has a tendency to get soggy, its flavor and tenderness may be worth the mess. They also serve burgers and what some might consider soul-food inspired sides. In addition, Crisp provides a variety of domestic beers and craft cocktails, such as the Farmer’s Market, a refreshing cocktail with a combination of ginger beer and bourbon. While there are so many good things to say about the food(chicken) and drinks, it must be acknowledged that they are lacking in one area: service. Waiting for almost 20 minutes to place a food or drink order is not ideal, especially when the venue isn’t crowded. If Crisp Kitchen + Bar improved their level of service, this Bloomingdale gem could rival many happy hours in the D.C. area.
