Thursdays are great days. The anticipation for the weekend, the work week finally slowing down and of course, #ThrowbackThursday on Instagram. It’s also a great day to get off those thoughts that have been plaguing you all week. Not thots–thoughts. Here are ours:
“Who are you rooting for tonight?”
“I’m rooting for…everybody black….”
This may not be right, and call me crazy, but this is how I live my life. This is how I vote (thanks, Obama), how I felt when I watched America’s Next Top Model, American Idol, Project Runway, and Top Chef. And of course my favorite event of all to root for everybody black — The Olympics.
While I’m pretty sure that in that moment of candor, Issa expressed what most of me and my friends are thinking as we watch these award shows, I have come to apply this in most aspects of my life. I’m constantly rooting for my family, friends, and others who look like me because for so long, I didn’t have anyone to root for in certain industries. From black love to black excellence, I’ll continue to root for us.

Sometimes in life, it’s the little things that make us happy and preserve our sanity. Realizing that you’ve potentially dodged a bullet, in the long run, is certainly one of those things that can really make you find peace in the aftermath of any situation. Better to be safe than sorry, right?
