photo 4Last night continued the longest running R&B/Soul showcase in NYC with Sol Village presented by YouKnowIGotSoul and TheNext2Shine. Thanks to lovely staff over at ThisIsRnB.com I got to attend the show and bring a couple of friends to enjoy food, drinks, and great music at one of New York’s coolest live venues SOBs. Initially intrigued by the talented headliner Aaradhna, the showcase spoiled the audience with some of new soul music’s most promising acts including Nadia Washington, W Ellington Felton, Shelea, Jay Atlas and Shi Wisdom. Representing different styles, incredible vocals, and various international origins, it was a great treat. Here’s a short recap I made of the event:

Each opening artist performed three selections for the crowd. Standouts included Nadia Washington, a native of Dallas, TX whose vocal runs were the perfect blend of power and soul and Shi Wisdom, a Toronto born singer/songwriter whose confident, cool vibe match effortlessly with her incredible voice.

No stranger to the Sol Village showcase, headliner Aaradhna came to tear the house down. Giving several selections from her latest album Treble and Reverb (which stays on constant rotation in my music library) the New Zealand born singer demonstrated why she is called “The Queen of Pacific Soul”. She ended her showcase with her single “Wake Up” that was recently remade with a feature from Common.

Stay tuned as we will give out information for Sol Village’s next showcase and other upcoming events.
